Training description



Target group
The training targets people who are: active in an international environment; in regular contact with people from one or more other countries (by telephone, e-mail or travel); in their own country, often in contact with people from other cultures in a professional capacity; going to be fulfilling a position abroad for a brief (several months) or longer period of time.
Results
You will acquire insight into the generic differences between cultures, and you will learn how to develop specific knowledge of the cultures that are relevant for you. You will have practised the three skills that form the foundation for intercultural competence. You will have self-knowledge of the most effective attitude for exercising influence in an international environment. You will have knowledge of and practise in persuading/negotiating in taking into account the international differences in communication.

  • How can I develop my intercultural competencies?
  • How can I exhibit the desired behaviour in intercultural communication, and how can I create a support base in international environments/intercultural situations?
  • What are common cultural differences?
  • How can I develop an internationally oriented attitude?
Approach
  • Complete questionnaire beforehand.
  • Practise intercultural situations with an actor.
  • Between the first and second day, start working on an action plan prepared based on experience or a new work situation from intercultural points of view.
  • Training with a strong focus on experience.
Detailed
The training is characterised as follows: Presentation and discussion: what is intercultural competence? Reflection and exchange on the differences between the participants' cultures and the cultures with which they come in contact based on a cultural differences model; Strategy and approach to reduce the static in the communication between cultures; Case study in small groups: practising intercultural competences in practical situations; What do you still need to develop to get there?; Working together effectively in an international environment and in intercultural situations; Learning to control, creating a support base, and influence in an international environment/intercultural situations; Personal agreements to enable you to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training.
